TRAVEL PLANS

Rusty’s X-cellent Adventures can arrange accommodations and tours to fit most any budget. We can help you find “off the beaten track” accommodations, obscure stuff you don’t find through most travel agents.

We offer ride packages, special group rates and we will customize packages to fit the needs of our visitors.

WHAT TO BRING

Stuff we recommend mountain bikers bring to Jamaica:

SLIME (don’t come without it!!!) Riding clothes (shorts, t-shirts, jerseys, etc.)
Tennis shoes or bike shoes (or both)
Rain poncho or lightweight rain jacket
Camelbak or at least 2 water bottles (or both)
Backpack or fanny pack
Spare inner tube(s)
Helmet
Gloves
Protective gear, for advanced & crazy riders (knee & elbow pads)
Bandanna (many uses on the trails such as wiping sweat from face & eyes or grease off hands)
Bicycle light or flashlight (for night rides and if you plan to use your bike at night as basic transportation)
If you don't plan on bringing your bike and you ride clipless,
bring your shoes and pedals.

Bike bell
Bike Lock - a cable with a padlock is good (most kryptonite locks won’t fit around trees)
Sun screen water & sweat proof with a minimum of 15 SPF, even if you "don’t burn".
Sun glasses
Lip balm with sunscreen

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
Mosquito & bug repellent for your skin. Mosquitoes are most abundant in summer & fall but fairly scarce in winter & spring. But if bugs have a special thing for you and you don’t want to use sprays, try this: 3 weeks before your trip, start taking a B complex - with B1, B12 & B6 - & mosquitoes don’t like your blood very much. Garlic supplements work well too; start Garlic just a few days prior to your trip. To stop itch from bites, Benadryl cream or spray is good, Calamine & Caladryl suck. Natural / herbal solutions: Echinacea & Goldenseal Combination drops or Lavender Oil.

Camera & Film Film & tapes (for video cameras) are about twice as expensive in Jamaica as in the U.S. (Batteries too) because they are imported tourist products. Make sure you bring enough. One-time-use cameras are great to take on rides because they are lightweight & probably wont break if you take a spill.

Baseball cap is good to keep sun off your face and rain out of your eyes if a sudden tropical shower catches you while ridding (unless you have wipers on your sunglasses).

T-Shirts you don't mind getting dirty (or dark colored t-shirts)   Some of the earth in Negril is red. Hit a puddle and the back of your shirt may be stained with the infamous Negril Splash.

Sports foods/drinks If you are addicted to Power Bars, bring some. They are not available in Jamaica. We carry fresh fruit on rides. Gatorade is available but pricy; also a tourist product (not generally used by locals). Great Jamaican alternative: Drink coconut water. Its a great hydrator and so full of vitamins you can literally live on it.
